“Yoga Rebel” – that’s the name given to Tara Stiles by the New York Times!

Strala Yoga is an inclusive and straightforward approach to yoga and meditation. It is the brainchild of Tara Stiles. She is the yoga instructor of renowned holistic health guru, Deepak Chopra. Her yoga classes, yoga DVDs and book – ‘Slim, Calm, Sexy Yoga’ are worldwide popular. Strala Yoga aims to help people create awareness about their mind and body. It enables them to connect these two to reap the best out of spirituality and health.

Introducing Tara Stiles:

Born on 6th May 1981, Stiles was a professional model before discovering yoga. Quite soon, yoga consumed her interest and she created Strala Yoga with her husband, Michael Taylor in New York in 2008. She has worked with several renowned names, including Jane Fonda and Deepak Chopra. An admirable person, she has been quoted as the “coolest yoga instructor” by Sarah Palin, reporter of ‘Vanity Fair’. She has lent her expertise along with Deepak Chopra to come up with Authentic Yoga, a special yoga app for iPhone users.

Strala Yoga – A Quick Glance:

Strala is a Swedish word that means “radiating light”. Yes, the place lives up to its name. Spread over a sprawling 3,500 square feet, this place offers sessions with Stiles as well as 13 more instructors.

Strala is a style and class on its own. It does not follow any classic school of yoga. The focus is more on the physical part and the benefits it renders. No chanting, no Sanskrit names, and the best thing – the trainers are assessed by their practical proficiency and not certificates.

According to Stiles, yoga should be accessible to all. “People need yoga, not another religious leader. Quite often in New York, they want to be religious leaders, and it’s not useful. I was never invited to the party anyway—so I started my own party”, that’s what Stiles says about Strala.

This yoga style poses a challenge for yoga practitioners, irrespective of his/her proficiency level. The challenge is to sync their movement with their breathing pattern to develop and strengthen oneself, while keeping all other thoughts at bay. This looks quite simple, but requires adept practice to master.
Strala yoga aims to blend yoga with assorted forms of fitness regimes in such a way that the goals are met in a deeper and more comprehensive fashion. This style takes its roots from the concept of freedom, where your mind and body are free of all other thoughts.

While other yoga styles teach various asanas to meet your goals, Stiles’ yoga attempts to enable you to understand your body. This, in turn, enables you to be calm and composed facing the challenges posed by life.
