Healthy Lentil Soup for the Monsoon Season

This monsoon fuel your body with this vitamin-rich, fibre-filled heart loving soup. It is rich in protein and includes a variety of vegetables like garlic, onions and vegetable stock, which will improve your cardiovascular health.


  • Red lentils 50 gms
  • Celery 15 gms
  • Carrots 50 gms
  • Onion 15 gms
  • Garlic 5 gms
  • Egyptian rice 15 gms
  • Salt 5 gms
  • Vegetable stock 5 gms
  • Olive oil 5 gms
  • Red pepper flakes 5 gms


Soak the red lentils and egypitan rice seperately for three hours in water, then boil 100 ml of water, add lentils and rice together until it is in solid paste, transfer into a bowl and keep aside. Heat olive oil in heavy based sauce pan over medium heat, once heated, add small sliced carrots, onions, chopped garlic, sautee it and add vegetable stock and little water, pour the lentil and egyptian rice paste, add vegetable stock, salt and stir thoroughly. Transfer the soup into the bowl, dress it with red pepper flakes and cumin powder. Serve it with lemon wedges and pita crumbs.
