When did you realise that you were over weight? Was it a “Happy realisation” or a medical issue? Please explain.
I was 15 when I realised I was overweight. My appetite was too strong, I felt hungry after every hour. This unhealthy hogging regularly added 10 kgs of fats to my body for the next three years. My parents were worried about my unhealthy bulge; I looked older than my age and fell sick regularly. It was than my father consulted an Obesity Specialist to help me with my weight loss programme.
How did you begin your weight loss? Tell us about the baby steps that you look, like avoiding junk, alcohol or if you started to take walk after lunch etc?
My Obesity Specialist made me follow the following points along with a strict diet plan and weight loss pills in the initial days of my weight loss.
- Avoid junk food, sugary foods, oily items and potatoes.
- Add healthy nutritious food like leafy vegetables, salad, juices, and fruits in my diet.
- Regular one hour walk every morning.
I lost 7kgs in just two months using this healthy plan. But the downfall was I experienced no weight loss after a while, the weight remained stagnant (73 kgs) for the next three months in spite of following the above health rules. I was demoralised. I blamed it on my genes and stopped everything. It was after one year, my neighbor pushed me to joining a gym, ‘you’ll get inspired after seeing others lose weight in the gym,” she said. So I enrolled in a gym and started working out regularly. It did work!
Tell us about your exercise regime? How difficult was it in the beginning to exercise? What were your biggest concerns?
I was attending school at 17, so following a strict workout schedule was difficult. I did follow my healthy diet along with outdoor games, that I played in school during breaks and after school. But I also had a psychology fix in my mind that gym is the only last resort for me to lose weight.
The beginning was very tough, as my body was completely jammed. Muscle cramps, body pain was a regular affair, but this time I decided to go on with it. Losing weight before I enter college was my mission now.
Tell us about your diet? What type of changes did you do? Did your family help you or join in your efforts?
I ditched junk food and sweets for fruits, salads and moong dal (boiled, twice a day). I avoided oily unhealthy food at parties and weddings too. My father would quickly get me a plate of salad, curd/ juices to keep me away from these binges.
