Water is the elixir of life. Any TomDickandHarry knows that. But then, why am I here preaching the ill effects of drinking water? Right now you might be gazing at the screen in utter disbelief. But hold on! What you are going to read might actually make you see the stars.

1. More Pressure On Heart:

The heart performs the vital function of pumping blood through your entire body. When you consume too much of water, this increases the volume of blood inside your body. This puts pressure on the heart as it has more amount of blood to pump throughout. It can take only limited pressure and too much of it could be fatal.

2. Dilution Of Nutrients:

Nutrients are much essential in order to maintain a robust health. They provide immunity from various diseases and maintain our metabolic functions. The blood in our bodies is a swift carrier of various nutrients and salts. Too much of water being ingested into our systems results in dilution of blood. This in turn diminishes the concentration of salts and other essential nutrients.

3. Bad For Kidneys:

Kidneys filter the impurities in the blood which then pass out in the form of urine. These delicate organs undergo pressure if the intake of water multiplies drastically. This damages the insides of the kidneys, specialized capillary beds called glomeruli, due to frequent wear and tear.

4. Swelling Of Cells:

As your blood gets diluted due to excess water, the concentration of electrolytes becomes lower than that in cells. To maintain a balance between the concentration of electrolytes in the two, water begins to flow into the cells. This results in swelling of cells. When this swelling happens in the brain, you would begin to feel pressure within. The brain resides inside the skull, which is nothing but a flat bony box. The expanding brain presses itself to the walls of the skull. But having nowhere to go, the brain cells might as well end up bursting. This causes mild headaches, seizures, and in some extreme cases, even death.

5. Decreased Levels Of Blood Sodium:

The sodium content in blood influences the functioning of the electrolytes. These electrolytes are responsible for sending signals to cells which control various operations of the body. When you consume too much amount of water, sodium levels in the blood decrease. This stops the electrolytes from sending signals to cells. And as a result, the bodily functions end up in trouble.
